The Mount Vernon District Representative to the Fairfax County School Board, Mateo Dunne, announced in his Aug. 6 “Dunne Dispatch” that he’s planning to establish Pyramid Advisory Councils at all three of the high schools in the district — Mount Vernon, West Potomac and South County.
The purpose of the councils, he said, is to enhance community engagement, increase coordination within the pyramids and provide stakeholders with a voice in the direction and operation of their pyramids.
Each council will be composed of one representative from each elementary school within the pyramid, two representatives from each middle school and three representatives from the high school. Principals also will be invited to participate in the council meetings, which will be held at least quarterly.
According to Dunne, community members — including those without children attending FCPS — are welcome to apply to join the council.
“Those [non-FCPS] families represent 70% of the county population, and they have an important voice that should be heard,” he told Mount Vernon On the MoVe.
To apply to join the council for a particular pyramid, send your resume to Dunne’s staff aide Nelda Brown (nnbrown@fcps.edu) along with an explanation of interest and mention of any connections with FCPS. There is no fixed deadline, said Dunne.
